Pre-development testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed extension to Robeen graveyard, Robeen, Co. Mayo. The proposed extension is within the area of SMR 110:48, ecclesiastical remains. Four test-trenches were excavated by machine on the site of the proposed extension.
All trenches measured 54m x 1.5m. The stratigraphy within Trenches 1–3 consisted of a sod/topsoil layer 0.34m thick, which directly overlay a natural, light brown/white, silty gravel and in some places a natural, orange boulder clay.
At the southern end of Trench 4 the sod/topsoil, 0.4m thick, directly overlay a natural, orange boulder clay. Four metres north of the southern end of the trench the natural, light brown/white, silty gravel replaced the natural, orange boulder clay. In the northern half of the trench the sod/topsoil 0.35m thick directly overlay a natural, orange boulder clay.
No archaeological features or finds were recovered from any of the trenches.
