Testing was undertaken before the construction of two semi-detached holiday cottages at Mucklagh, Westport, Co. Mayo. The remains of part of an overgrown ringfort occur in the same field as the proposed development.
Four test-trenches were opened on the imprint of the two cottages. One was sited at the entrance to the development, and another was sited along the proposed avenue to the houses.
No archaeological remains, associated with the nearby ringfort or not, were uncovered during testing.
