A burnt spread was discovered under topsoil and was excavated on 7 July 1999. It consisted of a spread of mid-brown, silty clay measuring 1.05m north-south by 1.25m, with frequent flecks and sparse small lumps of charcoal. On excavation a shallow, irregular-shaped pit up to 0.08m deep was uncovered. It cut through natural till. No artefacts were recovered, and a sample is currently being processed for radiocarbon dating.
