An assessment of a proposed extension to a commercial premises at 2–3 Mill Row, Trinity Street, Drogheda, was carried out in January 1999. The proposed development site is outside the West Gate of the medieval town on the south side of Trinity Street. The street consists of a group of purpose-built mill cottages associated with the nearby flax mill, which was later converted to a boot factory.
One trench measuring 7m by 1.2m was excavated. This revealed that the existing building was constructed above a layer of red brick rubble and a layer of cobbles of 18th–19th-century date. There was no evidence of archaeological stratigraphy, and hence the proposed extension would not have any archaeological impact.
