An extensive archaeological assessment had already being conducted on the site to determine the level at which structural remains survived (see No. 571, Excavations 1999). Thus, all structural remains were preserved in situ.

Ground reduction was taken to a level at which the top of some of the surviving tannery walls were flush with the reduced ground level. None of the walls were exposed, and no archaeological finds were revealed.
