A considerable number of sites were identified during monitoring of the Ardee link road, which covers a distance of 7km from Ardee town through the Dee valley to the M1 motorway under construction at Charleville. The work was carried out for Louth County Council. The site names (Richardstown 1 etc.) listed below correspond to numbers given to all sites investigated under monitoring licence 99E0200. Some were excavated under that licence, while the larger sites were excavated under separate licences. Excavations under licences 99E0200, 99E0465 and 99E0458 were carried out by Matthew Seaver. Further excavation was undertaken in Broadlough and Richardstown townlands by Carmel Duffy (see No. 547, Excavations 1999).
