This potential site was first identified in 1995. It appeared on the ground as two linear, low banks and possible associated shallow ditches, which were tentatively identified as a possible enclosure.
Two trenches were dug by hand before construction of the Croom Bypass. Trench A measured 10m by 1m and ran east-west across the parallel ditch features. Trench B measured 8m by 1m and ran north-south across the features. Excavation revealed that the features were composed of topsoil and mixed boulder clay with lenses of grey marl. At the base of the shallow ditches small stones were found, and so the features were interpreted as drains. Finds were scarce and all modern. No features of an archaeological nature were discovered.
