Testing was carried out on 8 June 1999 following a request by DĂșchas to the applicant, as the development site was within SMR 32:190, an enclosure or subrectangular platform, defined on the east, north and west sides by a ditch and on the south side by the field boundary. It may be a medieval moated site. The development, to the west of the R512 on flat grazing land, consisted of a dwelling-house, garage, septic tank, percolation area, entrance and boundary wall, which were east of the enclosure, the boundary being only 2m from the outer edge of the ditch at the south-western corner. The site measured 61m from the centre road line by 30.5m north-south.
Within the development site the only feature noted was an earthfast boulder close to the northern fence. A second, similar boulder was found north of the site, close to the road bank. Eight 1m-wide cuttings were made to coincide with the various elements of the proposed development.
No features, deposits or finds that could be identified as archaeological were noted in any of the cuttings. There did not, therefore, appear to be any archaeological reason why the development should not proceed.
