The Fair Green is to the west of Manorhamilton Castle, which dates to the 17th century. The local community proposes to develop the Fair Green into an amenity area. It was recommended by the National Monuments and Historic Properties Section, DĂșchas The Heritage Service, that pre-development testing be carried out.

Four trenches were mechanically excavated in the area of the proposed development. Two of the trenches were opened at right angles to the castle wall in order to ascertain whether a ditch survived. No evidence of a ditch was revealed during the trial-trenching.

Excavations in the trench along the southern perimeter of the Fair Green revealed the remains of a sunken well. Only the east side of the well was exposed, and no further work was carried out at this stage.
