Testing before an extension to an existing building at Garadice House, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, was carried out in July 1999. It is proposed to change the use of this 17th-century house from a dwelling to a hotel, through renovation and the construction of an extension.

Two trenches were excavated to determine the location and extent of the former west wing, which was demolished early in the 20th century. The testing confirmed the extent of the west wing and indicated that it had a basement similar to that under the main block. Demolition material was used to raise ground level on the west side of the house, which is at least 1m above surrounding ground level. A culvert was exposed extending in a north-south direction outside the west wall of the west wing and had a pitched roof of stone lintels. It was 0.3m wide and 0.3m deep and was similar to 17th-century examples found in Portumna Castle, Co. Galway. The proposed extension will not have a significant impact on the intact basement of the former west wing.
