Following the report of a previously unknown site discovered during afforestation, an emergency inspection of the site recorded an unfinished quern (Archaeology Ireland No. 49, 17) and medieval crannog ware. A more detailed survey before reconstitution of the site showed it to be several small mounds of ash and charcoal, roughly oval, 17m north-east/south-west by 11m and 0.5m deep. The site had been found at the margins of a former lake, and, although construction appears unclear, it seems that roundwood timbers were placed directly onto peat and the mound was consolidated by vertical timbers at the edge. Some slabs possibly showed evidence for paving. Animal bones, in association with the other artefacts, suggest a late medieval lakeside settlement.
