An assessment took place in February 1999 for a proposed development in the north-eastern sector of the medieval city, on the west bank of the River Nore and south-east of St Canice's Cathedral. The development involves the construction of a petrol service station and shop on the site of an existing petrol station, demolished before this assessment.

Three linear test-trenches were opened across the site. These revealed no archaeological deposits or soils. The site appeared to have been substantially truncated during construction of the existing structure sometime in the last 20–30 years.
