Test-trenching was carried out on the site of Callan Credit Union, on the northern side of Mill Street, in compliance with a condition of planning. The site was within the zone of archaeological potential for Callan town. The medieval street-plan of Callan is cross-linear, and Mill Street forms the western route.
A trench, 5m north-south by 5m and 1m wide, was opened on the footprint of the foundations of the proposed extension. A mixed layer of rubble had accumulated on a horizon of brown and yellow clays. No archaeological stratigraphy was recorded in the trench.
