This was one of a series of archaeological investigations carried out in connection with the N9 Realignment at Moone–Timolin–Ballitore Hill. Ancillary drainage works will pass between the stream known as Bothoge and a raised, D-shaped or circular area that appears to be an artificial earthwork. Seven cuttings, measuring 10m by 1.8m, were mechanically excavated along the area to be affected. The field is marshy, and the cuttings uncovered successive layers of gravel and peat.
One of the cuttings extended into the edge of the D-shaped feature, although the latter seemed rather irregular at this point. It consisted of gravel, which appeared to be undisturbed, with stones within it following a natural bedding as though laid down under water. The only find from this site was an iron horseshoe of uncertain date.
