An archaeological evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site at St Mary's College, Naas, Co. Kildare, on 27 November 1999. The work was undertaken in compliance with a request from the NMHPS, DĂșchas The Heritage Service. The development, which consists of a two-storey extension to existing school buildings, is in the immediate environs of the town defences and Dominican friary and to the immediate north-west of a motte.
Three trenches were excavated by machine. The development is on the edge of existing basketball courts, the groundworks of which reduced the area by up to c. 1m below the original ground surface.
No features, structures or deposits of archaeological interest were uncovered during the evaluation, although a base sherd of medieval/post-medieval date was recovered.
