Cable-laying on behalf of Esat Telecom extended east-west along a route from within the University's gate lodge, alongside the castle's gatehouse, and on up the north side of Main Street to its junction with Stratton Road, at which point the route headed south. An extension also ran south along the west side of Leinster Street from the Leinster Mills, crossing Main Street to terminate at its junction with Leinster Street.
One sherd of local ware was recovered from the trench close to the junction of Main Street and Fagan's Lane. Two small fragments of stone window mouldings and a substantial window mullion were recovered beneath the castle facade, from which they clearly fell at some point in the past.
