Monitoring was carried out on 21 October 1999 on the site of a proposed extension to the existing club house at Barn Hall. The site is immediately to the north-west of a bridge built in 1308 by John le Decer, mayor of Dublin.
On removal of the concrete, a 0.1m layer of rubble sat directly on the natural, yellow/brown boulder clay. Examination of the site indicated that this area had previously been cut into the natural bank along the river's edge, thus destroying any stratigraphy that may have existed here.
