An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at a proposed development site at Glebe South, Old Kilcullen, Kilcullen, Co. Kildare, on 18 December 1999. The site is to the south-south-west of the Old Kilcullen ecclesiastical remains and adjacent to the postulated location of a gate associated with the medieval borough.
Five trenches were excavated by machine. Two distinct layers were uncovered. Layer 1, 0.28–0.33m thick, was topsoil. The sterile and undisturbed nature of Layer 2 indicated that it represented the natural subsoil horizon.
No features, structures or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered during the evaluation, and it was suggested that no further archaeological involvement was required at the site.
