The site, where soil-stripping before quarrying was taking place, was in an area of hilly pasture comprising a gravel ridge running north-east/south-west. A feature was revealed and subsequently excavated (see No. 380 Excavations 1999). The soil-stripping revealed a consistent stratigraphy with variations in depth (0.3–2.3m) reflecting the undulating topography. Several areas of burning were uncovered but were not considered of archaeological significance.
