Two engineering test-pits and four associated sub-percolation pits associated with the construction of five houses in the townland of Loher, Waterville, were monitored because of the rich archaeological nature of the entire landscape and the proximity of the proposed development to Kildreenagh ecclesiastical site and Loher stone fort. The site is on the lower western slopes of Farraniaragh Mountain, commanding extensive views of the Loher valley, Ballinskelligs Bay and Skellig Michael.
The exposed material was loose, natural, undisturbed, purple-red sandstone.
No archaeological stratification or artefacts were encountered during this work.
