The remains of this ringfort lay to the west of the proposed rerouting of the N21. The ringfort had previously been bisected by an older slip road. There was tentative evidence that it may have been bivallate. Thus the line of the rerouted road nearest to the ringfort was tested to ascertain whether the ringfort’s enclosing element extended far enough to be affected by the road.
The results of the trenching showed that the enclosing element of the enclosure lay to the west and beyond the line of the road and therefore would not be affected by its construction.
