This project concerned testing on the summit of Knockroe Hill, Abbeyknockmoy, Co. Galway. Recent work erecting telecommunication aerials on the hill resulted in the summit of Knockroe being levelled. The Archaeological Record of County Galway records the existence of three cairns on the top of this hill; however, only one of these monuments is visible above ground today. The testing was undertaken in an attempt to find the other two monuments. The work was carried out over three weeks from 8 November 1999.

Four trenches were manually excavated revealing no trace of any archaeological monuments or artefacts of archaeological significance. Two cairns, which were recorded some years ago as existing at the summit of the hill, no longer survive. They are likely to have been levelled during work on the summit that resulted in the installation of telecommunication aerials, associated structures and a roadway leading to the hilltop.
