An initial phase of site assessment works uncovered a stone-cut feature, possibly a ditch associated with the Swords Castle defences. Environmental contamination, in the form of seeping oil and raw sewage, necessitated a site-specific finds-retrieval and section-recording exercise, the results of which proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that the feature is a product of mid-19th-century stone quarrying.
