Monitoring was carried out of cable-laying for the Esat link along Sandymount Strand in July 1999. The cable was crossing Dublin Bay to Southport in England. The Shipwreck Inventory for County Dublin, held in the office of the Underwater Unit of Dúchas The Heritage Service, records a large number of shipwrecks for Dublin Bay including Sandymount Strand.
A large plough systematically cut a furrow and laid the cable along the designated route across the Strand. No archaeology was encountered during the monitoring of the works.
