Following assessments carried out at this site by Eoin Halpin in 1995 (Excavations 1995, 24–5) and 1997 (Excavations 1997, 56–7) and by Una Cosgrove (op. cit.), it was proposed by the Dublin Corporation archaeologist, Daire O'Rourke, that further areas be cleared before development works at the site. This took place on 29 October 1999; however, owing to concern about site security, further investigation was postponed until 2000.
