Test-trenching was carried out on 22 June 1999. Four test-trenches were excavated within the carparking area to the east of Marian Court Flats, Queen Street, Dublin 7. The proposed development involved the amalgamation of 28 existing one-bedroom ground-floor units into 14 two-bedroom units and the construction of a corner shop at the junction of Queen Street and Blackhall Street. The area of Queen Street/Blackhall Street is within the zone of archaeological potential for medieval Dublin, as defined by the Urban Archaeological Survey. Queen Street was laid out in the mid-17th century. The church and graveyard of St Paul are to the north-west of the site. The graveyard is still in use.
The test-trenches revealed that no significant archaeological deposits or features were present on site. That stratigraphy exposed consisted of 18th-19th-century dumped material and backfilled cellars.
