Test-trenches were opened on this site in 1991 by Margaret Gowen before the initial construction of the Dublin Institute of Technology building (Excavations 1991, 11). No features or finds of archaeological significance were revealed at that time.
Four additional trenches were opened on the western, undeveloped portion of the site in 1999. The trenches revealed a substantial depth of rubble that appears to relate to the demolition of the Old Jacob's Biscuit Factory, which formally stood on the site. Subsoil was revealed below this rubble, except in one trench, where the top of a sewer (probably relating to the factory) was revealed.
No features or finds of archaeological significance were revealed in these trenches.
