Monitoring of the sea defences was carried out in various townlands in the parish of Newtownards, Co. Down. The remodelling of the sea defence bank and the creation of a new back drain took place. A set of archaeological mitigation measures was carried out. World War II structures were photographed. A section of the bank (dating from 1810 onwards) was observed and drawn. The excavation of the new back drain was monitored. One piece of worked oak (yet to be examined) was the only possible pre-19th-century archaeological artefact or feature noted during monitoring to date. Archive research unearthed a private map showing the pre-reclamation outline of part of the north of Strangford Lough.
