As part of the flood alleviation scheme along the Newry (Clanrye) River by DOE/Water Service, a new wall and trunk sewer line are being constructed along the eastern edge of the river. At present this work is being undertaken at two locations-River Road/Kilmorey Street at the southern end of the town and Sugar Island at the northern end.

The works are being monitored, but no significant archaeological material has as yet been uncovered.
