The construction of an office/production facility, carparking and associated site works at Smithstown Industrial Estate, Shannon, Co. Clare, was subject to an archaeological condition in the planning permission. Monitoring was carried out between 1 June and 26 August 1999.
The development consisted of the removal of topsoil from an area that was subject to the deposition of construction rubble over a period of several years to raise the ground level. The digging of foundation trenches and service trenches was also monitored.
No archaeological material was discovered, disturbed or destroyed by this development.
