On 7 January 1999 testing was carried out in the environs of a linear earthwork at Rosmadda West, Co. Clare, before the laying of a gas pipeline from Limerick to the village of Parteen and on through Rosmadda West. The site is on the western edge of the Limerick–Broadford road, and on the approach to the Blackwater Bridge. It was not marked on either the 1st or 2nd Ordnance Survey 6-inch maps but does appear on the 3rd edition as a linear earthwork.
Field inspection identified an earthen ridge, 18.2m long x 2–3m wide x 0.4m high. This ridge lay c. 8m in from the road line. The proposed pipeline crossed the zone of archaeological potential for the earthwork. A test-trench was inserted in order to ascertain the existence of associated archaeological activity.
No finds, features or deposits of archaeological interest were noted.
