During a site inspection of the wedge tomb at the top of Roughan Hill in August 1999 Carleton Jones brought to this writer's attention fragments of human bone lying on the surface of the clay floor of the chamber. Nine fragments in all (including one tooth) were collected, in addition to a waste flake of cream-coloured flint, a tiny waste flake of chert and a small sherd of pottery. These have been deposited in the National Museum of Ireland, Kildare Street. As the chamber of this tomb is easily accessible, it was decided to cover the clay floor with large, flat stones that will help protect it from further visitor erosion.
