Pre-development testing was carried out on 29 May 1999 in response to a condition of planning for a development that consisted of the construction of five houses with ancillary services, as well as a variation of the site layout previously approved at Kilquane and Ballylannidy townlands, Co. Clare. The condition was included because the proposed development was adjacent to an enclosure.
The site lay in grassland just east of Woodstock Golf and Country Club, on a slight downslope from the enclosure to the north.
Three trial-trenches were excavated by machine, positioned to cover that area of the proposed development nearest the recorded monument. They were orientated east-north-east/west-south-west and were 20.2m long, 1–1.5m wide and 0.1–1.1m deep. The stratigraphy was the same in all three: topsoil above orange/brown natural subsoil and bedrock. The bedrock outcropped in places along the trench and was never more than 0.6m below the surface.
No artefacts were in evidence. The testing revealed undisturbed stratigraphy only.
