A programme of archaeological trial-trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed dwelling-house at Lislea, Virginia, Co. Cavan, on 3 April 1999. The work was undertaken in compliance with a request for additional information in respect of the proposed construction of a single dwelling. The development is a minimum of 12m from a ringfort site that was extant in 1970 but has since been levelled, although there are some slight traces visible on the ground. A public road separates the development area from the ringfort site.
Five trenches, ranging from 11m to 70m long, were excavated mechanically in order to determine the nature and extent of any possible archaeological structures or deposits within the area of development. No such features were revealed, and no material finds were recovered during the testing.
