Monitoring of the Cootehill Sewerage Improvement Scheme took place from June to December 1999. Some works involving the opening of new areas are planned to resume in summer 2000. The scheme involved pipe-laying for 3–4m around the Plantation town of Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

During the initial assessment it was found that the scheme could have an indirect impact on a possible feature found during field-walking, while the river-crossing at Clement's Bridge, north along the Belturbet Road, was investigated before works took place here. No other features of archaeological interest were found during the assessment, except for some iron pumps along the road, for which preservation was recommended.

During monitoring, an archaeological feature (probably part of a fulacht fiadh) was found, and this was excavated in September 1999 (see No. 30, Excavations 1999).
