Pre-development archaeological testing was carried out on this site, which is adjacent to Rathgall Hillfort (SMR 37:16) and is within 15m of a known hut site, Knockeen Enclosure (SMR 37:19). Potentially archaeologically significant deposits were identified in three of the eleven trenches. These deposits took the form of infrequent charcoal flecking at the base of F2, a mid-brown, sandy loam. No datable material was recovered from this deposit. The deposit rested on natural subsoils.
The pre-development surface-stripping was subsequently monitored, and nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
