Owing to the close proximity of the development area to the site of a church and graveyard, Dúchas The Heritage Service recommended that archaeological testing be a condition of any planning permission granted.
Test-trenching was carried out on 11 and 12 November 1998. Ten mechanically excavated test-trenches were opened but failed to reveal any archaeological remains, either in the form of subsoil features or portable finds.
