Supervision of the excavation of seven pads was required by planning permission; this was for an extension to the back of the AIB premises on Oliver Plunkett Street. The stratigraphy was constant throughout the site. It had been disturbed at the east where a previous extension was constructed on a raft and a deposit of sand and hard-core had been laid down as a base.
The stratigraphy comprised c. 7m of building and demolition rubble, brick, slate etc. in a matrix of loose, black clay. Underlying that was a loose, grey garden clay deposit, c. 1m deep. This layer did not produce finds, but there was no evidence to indicate that it had archaeological significance. The grey, garden clay layer bottomed on to yellow, natural boulder clay. No material of archaeological significance was observed.
