Three trenches tested this long, narrow site, at the west end of the medieval town. Trench 1, at the Dominick Street end, produced evidence of a pit or ditch terminal, 4m wide on its north-south axis and 1m deep. There were two layers of fill; the upper was a clay fill that produced two sherds of late 18th-century pottery, and the lower comprised silt with a high content of twigs and vegetable matter but no finds. While the date of this feature was not clear, a late 18th- or 19th-century date was suggested.
A survey of the standing building was also carried out before demolition and reconstruction behind the original facade. There was no evidence to suggest that the building was earlier than 19th century in date.
