Pre-development testing was carried out on 28 May 1998 at the site of a proposed development at Fore, Co. Westmeath, on behalf of Valerie J. Keeley Ltd. The proposed development lay within the area of archaeological potential in Fore as identified in the Urban Survey of County Westmeath. The development involved the conversion of an existing, derelict building, which stood at the north end of the village abutting the public road, into a tourist office and coffee shop and the provision of toilet facilities and a carpark at the rear of the site.
In the course of the archaeological work no archaeological material was uncovered. Both areas examined, Area 1, to the east of the existing building, and Area 2, in a waterlogged, boggy area to the north, were completely sterile.
