An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at a proposed development site at Water Street, Castlepollard, on 5 August 1998. The work was carried out in compliance with two grants of planning in respect of two individual plots that make up the site of a housing development.
Six trenches were mechanically excavated in order to determine the nature and extent of any subsurface archaeological features that may exist within the external area adjacent to the boundary wall with Killefree graveyard. The area of testing was defined by the NMHPS, DĂșchas.
No finds, features or structures of archaeological significance were uncovered during the course of the work, and it was recommended that no further archaeological involvement was required at the site.
