The proposed development consisted of an extension (8.8m x 6m) to the rear of the existing shop premises at No. 92 The Quay, Waterford. The site for proposed redevelopment lay within the zone of archaeological potential for the city of Waterford. Consequently archaeological monitoring of all construction works was requested as a planning condition.
Onsite works involved the excavation of foundation trenches, 0.6m deep and 0.5m wide, and ground clearance within the central area. At the depth of 0.6m there were no indications of archaeological material.
