Monitoring of pipe-laying for the Roscrea Sewerage Scheme took place in the grounds of St Crónan's Catholic church and along the Bunnow River towards the Burgoo Bridge. The 15th-century friary lay across the river at one location where works were to take place, and the 'Roscrea pillar' lay in the grounds of St Crónan's, on the same bank on which the pipes were laid (although it is believed to have been moved there from Monaincha). Limited testing of the riverbank, in advance of construction, showed that it had been regraded fairly recently.

No archaeological deposits were disturbed during pipe-laying, as both the riverbed and northern bank had been disturbed earlier this century during previous works.
