Pre-construction testing took place in advance of the construction of a farm effluent tank at Cuckoo Hill, Ballindoney East, Nicholastown, Cahir. The site of the proposed development lies c. 30m to the south-west of an enclosure. An area measuring 12.5m x 12m and 2.1m deep will be covered by the proposed development. Three test-trenches were opened on the site.
There were no archaeological remains found during testing works that could be associated with the enclosure site. The soil profile in all the test-trenches consisted of a mid-brown topsoil with pebbles, small stones and root tendrils. The underlying subsoils consisted of a sterile, yellowish-brown, sandy clay and an olive, yellowish-brown, boulder clay.
