Pre-development testing was undertaken over two days in late October 1998. The site lay within the archaeological sensitive zone in Cahir town. The developer proposed to build five single-storey dwellings.
A series of trenches was opened along the foundation lines of the buildings. In the eastern area of the site bedrock occurred directly under the topsoil. The bedrock sloped downwards to the west of the site, where natural, compacted gravel overlay the rock. Modern infill of brick, mortar, stone etc. had been used to level this site in the last fifty years. No evidence of archaeology was uncovered during the testing.
