An archaeological assessment was carried out on the site of a proposed apartment building in accordance with planning conditions. The site lies close to the remains of Holy Cross Priory. Excavation was by mechanical digger using a toothless bucket.

Owing to upstanding buildings on part of the site, only four of the proposed five trenches could be excavated. Archaeological material of possible medieval date was encountered in the trench closest to the abbey grounds. This consisted of a stony surface, possibly a metalled surface, and a small pit or posthole, neither of which were excavated.

Large quarry pits were encountered in the most northerly trench. These contained large amounts of artefacts of post-medieval to modern date. Nothing of archaeological significance was recovered from either of the other two trenches.
