Monitoring of all open trenching and pipe-laying is taking place. The project is divided into three phases: (1) Ballygawley/Ballintogher pipeline, 10.1km; (2) Strandhill village pipeline, 3km; (3) Rosses Point Peninsula pipeline, 6.2km.
The project has been ongoing since November 1998, and the first phase of the Ballygawley/ Ballintogher line is nearing completion. To date, the open trenching has cut through one area of archaeological interest, the remains of a possible fulacht fiadh. All trenching in this section of the project has been undertaken along roadways.
