There was no known archaeological potential within or near the area to be disturbed; SMR 14:152, a settlement platform site and midden site, is 50m uphill from it. Goran Burenhult carried out a minor excavation within this platform in 1981. A radiocarbon determination of 1160±50 BP (AD 790/ AD 900) suggests a phase of use in the Early Christian period for that monument.
The test excavation took place on 2 September 1998. Strip A was 1.5m x 16.6m; Strip B was 3.1m north-south by 6.3m; Strip C was 1.5m by 14.3m; and Strip D was 1.5m by 13.2m. In all areas the sod was 0.1–0.15m thick. This overlay 0.15–0.2m of thick, brown soil over reddish-brown soil, which in turn overlay the limestone bedrock.
The area tested was archaeologically sterile.
