Pre-development testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed development in Vesnoy, Strokestown Co. Roscommon, in October 1998. The proposed development site lies within the designated archaeological area of a ringfort.
Five test-trenches were excavated by machine. Trench 1 was dug along the western boundary of the proposed development site adjacent to the ringfort. It ran in a north-south direction and measured 25m x 2m. The sod/topsoil layer directly overlay the boulder clay. Stratigraphy was similar in all the other trenches.
No archaeological features or small finds were recovered from any of the trenches.
