Archaeological monitoring took place along the course of the Rockingham-Cortober road (N4), Co. Roscommon, in the townlands of Usna, Hughestown, Drumharlow, Woodbrook, Cloongownagh, Cuiltyconeen, Meera, Cloonmaan, Clonskeeveen and Cortober, during road widening. The excavation of soil-investigation trenches was monitored on behalf of Roscommon County Council; 82 trenches were excavated at 50m intervals.

A single feature found at Trench 27 consisted of a spread of burnt stones and charcoal, 0.05m thick, and may represent a destroyed fulacht fiadh. One piece of worked wood with toolmarks was recovered from Usna townland, from boggy ground. The remains of a ringfort, 63.4m in diameter north-south x 57m, and not previously recorded, were found in Cloongownagh townland. This site will undergo further investigation.
